Case of study

As digital habits shift, an impressive 72.6% of internet users are expected to access the web exclusively via smartphones by 2025, driven primarily by younger audiences. This trend makes a mobile-first design approach essential. Delivering a sleek, seamless UX/UI experience will be the key to capturing and engaging this tech-savvy, dynamic demographic.

Throughout the design process, we identified a set of core frustrations to guide our information structure, ensuring a consistent focus on both user and business needs at every stage.

Experience Challenges:

Difficulty accessing a concise trip overview;

Excessive scrolling disrupts navigation flow;

Overly lengthy text detracts from clarity;

Experiences on trip aren’t easily discoverable;

Limited social proof, reducing user confidence;

Design Limitations:

Lacks optimisation for mobile-first users;

Sticky headers and footers reduce visible screen space;

Static, outdated layout;

Lacks personality and visual inspiration;

Cluttered design with oversized elements;

Contiki is all about adventure and unforgettable experiences for young travellers, so we crafted a trip page that perfectly captures the brand’s vibrant, fun-loving spirit. Every detail was designed to reflect Contiki’s unique tone of voice, inviting visitors to feel the thrill of travel and giving them a real taste of the adventures that await.

Contiki offers more than 350+ trips worldwide, each with unique options for accommodation, group size, and activities. The previous design didn’t effectively highlight this diversity, so we developed a new layout that seamlessly captures Contiki’s dynamic range.

UI Library

Contiki’s brand is bold, fun, and youthful, and I made sure the UI kit fully reflects that identity. I introduced fresh colors and created a custom icon library to capture the brand’s dynamic spirit, bringing Contiki’s unique personality to life in every detail.

Hero Component

I designed a full-screen mobile hero component featuring a multi-image carousel, allowing users to explore various trip images at a glance—no scrolling required. This immersive design brings the destination to life right from the start.

Trip Variations

We’ve made combining trips and discovering your perfect adventure easier than ever. With Contiki’s diverse range of activities, destinations, accommodations, age groups, and more, we’ve designed a dynamic, customizable experience that truly captures the spirit of a real Contiki journey.

Previously, users had to leave the page to switch between trip variations, making it difficult to compare extras, options, and prices—leading to high drop-off rates. To streamline this process, I introduced a horizontal selector that allows users to filter and view all essential information without navigating away, creating a seamless comparison experience.

UGC component

We live in a society driven by online sharing, and Contiki travellers are no exception. To enhance our connection with the community and provide social proof for the brand, we’ve introduced a brand-new, social-first UGC component. This feature creates a seamless and enjoyable experience for users.

Now, Contiki travellers can share content from their trips that is just as engaging, fun, and memorable as the experiences themselves.

Experience Cards

Contiki trips are thoughtfully tailored to offer a diverse array of experiences, from adventure and activity to historical exploration. We aimed to convey this spirit on the trip page.

We recognized the need for a category-based scroll selection that provides users with comprehensive details about each trip. This feature empowers users to delve deeper into their adventures, allowing them to explore extra costs and all the essential information necessary for planning their journey.

Itinerary

We’ve introduced a map and itinerary feature that enables users to quickly view details about each day of their trip. They can easily access an overview or expand an open module for in-depth information, offering a clear and comprehensive look at their adventure day by day. This includes highlights, specific locations, and details about their accommodations for each day, ensuring a well-rounded travel experience.

Reviews

Customer reviews are a crucial factor in making purchasing decisions. Contiki has built a reputation for excellence, receiving countless positive reviews from travelers around the globe over the years. To enhance this valuable feedback, we have redesigned our review component to not only display written reviews but also showcase a brand-new feature that allows travelers to upload images alongside their comments. This enhancement provides future travelers with a visual insight into the experiences shared, making the review process even more engaging and informative.

Dates and Prices

We are excited to introduce a brand-new calendar feature, complete with a date picker scroll that allows users to select their desired departure dates effortlessly. This intuitive interface enhances the user experience by providing a seamless way to browse through available trip options. Additionally, we have implemented a tagging system that empowers users to customize their journey.

This system enables travellers to filter and identify their ideal trip dates based on personal preferences and interests, ensuring a tailored and efficient planning process.

Headers and Footer

Maintaining a consistent header and footer with a persistent call-to-action (CTA) is essential for enhancing user engagement as they navigate through the page. This design ensures that critical elements, such as payment options and promotional sales messages, are always visible. By keeping the booking action readily accessible at all times, we empower users to make decisions and complete their reservations seamlessly, regardless of their position on the page. This approach not only improves usability but also increases conversion rates by facilitating a more intuitive booking experience.
